| Ah, driving in Edmonton... |
I feel like I've been transported in a different dimension the past week or so. Lots has happened...grab some tea or a coffee, this might be a lengthy post. I'll break this into chunks.

| This pretty much looks like my car. |
One fun thing happened: I bought a new car! Ooooh baby. It's a 2011 Ford Fusion. Never did I think I'd buy a new car, albeit a Fusion, but I'm pretty happy with it. That being said, I had to somewhat jump through hoops to get it. You see, unbeknownst to me, I had a black mark on my credit rating. I had no knowledge of this, and when I pulled up my credit report I was furious.
It turns out a former rental place I had lived at (I'll call it BW) tried to charge myself and my room mate a fee of $2332. Why? I don't know. They never bothered to give me a list of the charges. I recall we had left our rental suite 1 month early WITH written notice. They had said they would charge us $1000 for leaving and we were pissed...the reasons why we were leaving was because 1) my car was stolen there, 2) drug deals outside our door took place {I saw it through our door peep hole! Yep, I'm a peeper apparently!}, and 3) someone had attempted to break into our apartment. This was back in 2008. BW never made any contact with us after we moved. I was the one who was constantly trying to contact someone within the organization and eventually had to give up after running into multiple dead ends.
Well, after my former room mate and I made some phone calls, we finally got a hold of someone from BW and guess what? They admitted to their fuck up. YES! THEY MESSED UP, NOT US. They reversed the charges and everything's all fine and dandy.

The New Zealand quakes. Even though they were half a world away from me, they still made an impact. I have a former co-worker/friend living down in New Zealand with his girlfriend, both whom I miss a lot. He was pretty damn fun to work with, an amazing cameraman, and his girlfriend is an awesome person. This co-worker worked with me at the TV station I'm currently at, and he was also a former employee of the CTV building that collapsed in Christchurch. If you're not sure what the hell I'm talking about, click here. Lucky for all of us he stopped working there a few months ago. Unluckily though, many of his co-workers from CTV have been unaccounted for and are still missing. It really hit home, as these people work in the same field that I currently do and that I love. I don't know what I would do if I learned my work building collapsed and my co-workers were trapped inside. The thought makes me feel sick. I'm so glad and grateful my friends are safe, but I can't help but feel sad whenever I hear about CTV. My friend posted this video about CTV on her Facebook and it got to me. Please watch it if you get a chance.

Film grants. I'm currently in the process of applying for a film grant through the government. I'm hoping to work alongside with the BB Metis Awards in creating a short film to showcase the accessibility of this award to Métis students. For those who are unsure of what this is, it's a scholarship to help Métis students with post-secondary schooling. If it wasn't for the BBMAs, I wouldn't be working in Television. There's a lot of talented kids out there with no means of getting financial support for school, and I hope this project will help a lot of potential students out.
Oh, I should explain what Métis is....the definition technically is people who are of mixed Native American and European (mostly Caucasian) ancestry. Both sides of my family are a mix of Cree, Blackfoot, Iroquois, Scottish, and French heritage. (Swedish more so on my dad's side.) I'm not sure what this "mix" is called in the US, but here at least it's Métis (pronounced may-tee)
So...yeah. That's what I've been up to. Hopefully this week will be less whirl-wind. But I thought I'd share with you what's been going on in my life. I think this might be my longest personal post to date! Normally I like things short and sweet, but this time I had a lot on my mind and needed to share.
Well, I'll wrap this up now. I'm kinda curious what everyone else has been up to lately as well....
Ciao!

I keep telling my boyfriend to get his status card, you know, for the sweet deals. Haha
Sweet, he's Metis too? COUSIN!
I'm technically a Metis too, but I don't know that we have a special word for it in the States.
YAY to a new car! And I'm glad you got that credit thing fixed. That's major suckage.
Also, I lied about doing the vlog tonight. but not intentionally. I didn't realize just how much homework I had to catch up with, but hopefully that will come up soon! I'm excited about it!

congrats on your new car :)
We actually don't really have a term for people of mixed races other than biracial. Anything else is usually demeaning or racist. We suck.
I just love those gloves!!
I wish they would have more updates on the news about the New Zealand quakes, as well everything going on in Queensland. The media here is just too focused on celebrity junk, it seems.
so cool that you have a new car, so fucked up the way ppl wanna get money from you sometimes yuck! good luck on getting the grant!
Good luck with the grants, and congrats on the car!
I'm glad your friends are okay, but it sucks the other people are missing. It's so scary/tragic.
You mentioned the grant thing in your email, and I was going to ask about it. That's great. I hope everything works out for you! It's always nice to give back and inspire others. (We don't have any special names like that. The US is full of multi racial individuals so they'd have to come up with a lot of names, haha)
I would give an ovary for a new car! My car is just about paid off and its falling apart!! Grr.
i didn't hear anything about the New Zealand quakes until now. Man, I am so sorry to hear about it. I will definitely be thinking about everyone there.
Good luck on getting that grant! I hope that you do!
Métis sounds like a french word actually :) Good luck for the apply!
Very exciting about your new car - isn't it frustrating that companies can do something like that, and it be living on your record and you never know about it? Also very exciting about your film grant - good luck! So tragic and sad reading in the news about the earthquake, it really doesn't bear thinking about that happening to your friends and colleagues.
xxx
wow your new car is really cool!!
:) i like it!
Thanks everyone! I may do a video post on the "speech feature" in my car...it's pretty entertaining. The credit thing is slowly clearing up but it's all good. And I'm super grateful my friends in NZ are ok!
