I always get the days of the week mixed up. That's because my weekend is normally Friday and Saturday, then I work Sunday to Thursday. I don't mind it, but it just feels like a time vortex periodically.
This past weekend was pretty sweet though. I got together with a few of my buds and we checked out the Art Gallery of Alberta. It's in a newer building downtown and the architecture is something else. Google it if you can. We went there mainly to check out the work of Brian Jungen. Not familiar with him? Check out this link, or feast your eyes on the photos I'm about to show you.
This was a huge structure he made out of garbage bins. How neat is that?!
My personal favourites were his dinosaur-esque pieces, made out of plastic chairs:
His work is pretty amazing, wouldn't you agree? And of course, I had to take this fun picture of Jo. She loves dinosaurs...a lot. For reals. Don't be fooled by her face.
I managed to take a couple photos with my fish-eye camera before the roll of film became...unspooled? I'm not sure what the technical term is. Basically the film wasn't hooking to the sprockets. Only 6 photos came out. That kinda sucked.
And yeah, the two blondes girls are twins! We all come from a small town, and it seems like there were an awful lot of twins in our graduating class. Must be something in the water. Either way they're pretty awesome...
I love the glass work in the new art gallery. You get a beautiful view of the city and a nice little cafe to go along with it. This was Jo's first time eating pecan pie. Wonderful setting for such a monumental event, no?
I tend to eat out a lot and wanted to show them all one of my favourite restaurants in Edmonton...New York Bagel cafe. If you ever come to Deadmonton for some odd reason, please make a visit there. They have delicious home cooked meals with Polish flare. My personal favourites from the menu are the sun dried tomato & basil bagel platter, the kutia dish, and Polish pickle soup.
Doesn't this look divine? On the left, Erika bought a "sweet & fresh" plate, and on the right is my beloved bagel platter. My stomach is rumbling just looking at these.
I'm pretty happy Erika and Elizabeth like onions. Every platter comes with them. I HATE ONIONS.
Erika's hot water and lemon.
AGA for life, yo.
That's Jo's engagement ring. Never in a million years did I think she'd be the marrying type. I'm super happy for her though...she's engaged to a British radio DJ back in Manchester. He seems pretty cool...one day he was interviewing Joe Elliot from Def Leppard and convinced him to call up Jo. Why? She's a huge fan of the band. VERY COOL fiance!
That was my Friday. This was my Saturday:
Yep, I finally got my Soviet hat off Etsy. I LOVE IT!!! I love all things related to communist propaganda. I don't know why, but I do. The Etsy store I bought it from is called GenerationUm, and I recommend it. Remember my post a few days ago with Ben wearing the vintage eye glasses? I bought those from there too. She has a couple rings up for sale I'd love to own, but alas my sausage fingers won't fit them. (note: I don't have sausage fingers. I was attempting to make a funny. Ha...ha?) And the military jacket in this photo I picked up this past weekend also. I'm not even going to say where I bought it...you'll probably laugh.
On that note, I hope everyone had a good weekend. I finally got a roll of film from my Nikon FM developed. I just need to scan the photos and I'll post them on here. I'm pretty happy about it. Eeeee!
Much love,
~E

Hi there! I just stopped over from Aiukli Life is Beautiful. She did a great feature on you :) My husband is from Edmonton (and I laughed out loud when you said Deadmonton...we call it that too). I have never been to the Alberta Art Museum, but I really want to go now. We are only up in Edmonton for a short time during the year (NOT winter, haha) and I will deffo have to put this on my list of things to do when we are back. Thanks for sharing, and looking forward to getting to know your site better!!
