The Goal Dress

I keep mentioning on here that I have goals set for 2012.  I've yet to reveal them all, but one is to lose some weight and tone my muscles.  Cliche goal, right?  Yeah, I know.

After Brendan broke up with me in August (we're still good friends!) I got a gym membership and began seeing a trainer twice a week.  It really helped with my depression, and made me feel so much better about everything after each session.  But to be honest, I slacked a lot in October and November when it came to working out...I just didn't feel like it.

Now it's my goal to shed some weight.  It's mostly stubborn baby weight around my belly, but I think it can be manageable.  Ben was a huge baby, 10.5 lbs, so obviously quite a bit of weight was gained while carrying him (for the record I'm 5'1").  As well my core muscles are super weak.  You know how most people can get up easily from lying on their back?  Not me.  It's a struggle since my stomach muscles were weakened and my hips/lower back have gone to shit.

Here's where the "goal dress" comes into play.  While on one of my thrifting excursions, I came across a pretty cute vintage dress.  Only problem was that it's a bit snug, mostly in the tummy area.  Here's what it looks like on me now:

I *could* probably get away with wearing it out and about now with Spanx or some crap, but I don't want to.  You can kinda see my tummy poking through and I'm a bit self-conscious about that sorta thing.

My goal: lose a couple inches.  I'm not expecting to drop 30 lbs in a month or anything, but rather I want to lose the weight in a realistic amount of time while maintaining a healthy diet.  And what could be more motivation than being able to fit into a cute dress? (Hopefully by summer!)

So, that's one of my goals for this year.  We'll see if I can actually achieve it or not.

Later gators!

I was not going to say anything, because I was not sure whether or not it was intentional, but you have already noticeably lost weight over the last few weeks! And it's great that it helps you feel better overall! So there: you are looking really great! And that dress IS cute!

Oooh girl if you have an iPhone or iTouch, a great app for weight loss is Lose It! You tell Lose It what you eat, it gives you a calorie budget, and you just lose weight like crazy. I started seven days ago and lost 2 lbs already, my boyfriend at the same time as me and he's lost five. It totally works.

I know you can do it and I'm not just saying that. You're strong and you seem to be very determined. You've got a good head on your shoulders, I can't wait to hear about an update! :)

I was dumped in March and since then I've gained 20 pounds. Finding inspiration to work out during the winter is so hard for me D: I want to try the Lose It app MeghanSara mentioned above!

I think you look great (awesome dress btw!) but I know what you mean about wanting to lose some inches and feel great-I am on the same path right now. You are so realistic about it-I think you will have no problem. The months of Oct to Dec were pretty much a write off for me as well..so I am actually excited about gettin' busy and burning some calories now :)

Well, that is a fabulous goal dress if I ever saw one!

Love that you're being healthy and realistic about it - that is the best way to be and, I'm sure, will give you lasting results, unlike other unhealthy measures.

Can't wait to read about your journey and see you loving yourself in that dress (though you look great in it now)! :)

Loving the dress! You look awesome in it! I am also 5'1" and similar body type. The true test is whether or not you feel comfortable sitting in the dress. Standing is one thing, sitting is another! I say this from personal experience :) I tend to wear dresses that are fitted in the bust and then free in the hips. This way I can conceal the areas I'm not so confident with...

That's a great dress! Good luck with your goal.

I once read that sweat is what happens when fat cries. Don't know if that helps or not.

HA!

I really like your dress. What a great find. I definitely think you can reach your goal. At least you are thinking about it realistically and not trying to she a lot of weight within so many weeks.
